Good morning!
It seems like Substack might have had a glitch with some paywalling. I’m not sure if this is visible to you, but it appeared on my side as though Chapter IV of Sirius re-paywalled itself at some point. Chapter V looks fine. Hopefully these chapters are reaching you, and you’re not running into paywalls!
If you are, please let me know so I can get in touch with Substack about this issue. If not, it may just be a visible glitch on my end, but not actually an active issue.
I’ve also updated the broken links in the Rise of Sirius directory. I noticed that In the Shadow of the Lilac seems to have the same issue, so I’ll correct that and take a look at the other directories.
In other, more fun, news, if you’re a Catholic lady who enjoys veiling at Mass (if you’re not familiar with this tradition and would like to learn a bit about it, feel free to read about it here) and would like to purchase a veil I’ve made, check out the Missio Dei Etsy shop! Currently, Missio Dei has only commissioned white and black veils, and I believe, while there may be only a couple listed currently, that there are a total of six or seven available. Reach out to them if it appears out of stock.
They also have a Substack, by the way.
Speaking of veils, I’m very excited that I submitted a custom veil to a Catholic fashion show, which was a first! It was also last minute, hence one of the reasons it was a veil, but it’s for the best since veils are currently the only item I create to sell.
Logistically, I couldn’t attend the show in person, but I’m looking forward to seeing the photos from the event and finding out about other Catholic designers and creators. I can’t say much about it, since I believe it is a private event at this stage. Hopefully, though, I’ll be submitting pieces again in the future!
After I had spent much time deciding what lace and embellishments I needed, cue the lace that I had purchased actually being out of stock, two days before it was supposed to arrive! Several days later, only after I’d decided to get a refund rather than a fabric exchange, the shop found a single yard of the lace in their returns, the exact amount I had ordered. In the end, both the show coordinators and I were praying for the Holy Spirit’s guidance to create whatever was best in God’s eyes, so I take this as a sign that this lace was not what I was meant to use!
I ended up using some simpler lace that I had on hand. It’s one of the longest veils I’ve made, if not the longest, at ≈ 30” inches at the back. It’s a very full, cascading veil!
Poor lighting here, unfortunately, but this is the only shareable photo I took of the veil in question:
At some point I’d like to get one of those styrofoam heads for displaying hats, which would be useful for photographing veils, and I wonder if I could fix it to my dress form. Either way, it would be an improvement over having to find a large enough surface to spread the veil out.
Currently I only make custom veils as a freelancer on a commission basis, since the fees for setting up a business are significant, but this allows for the purchaser to basically design a unique veil which is just they’re looking for! There are so many beautiful laces I would love to create something with. In the final news:
🗓️🖋️ Mark your calendars!
I’ve written the first episode of The Haunting of Sea-glass Cove, currently scheduled for August 8th, with a release schedule of every other Friday leading up to October 31st. I’ll send out the synopsis a little later on, probably in July.
